Student and Family Engagement Team

Here at Code Nation our families and communities make our work possible! Each region has a dedicated team of people working together toward creating more transparency into our programs, student progress, and student achievement. Success means being there for our students and we need your support to ensure our students thrive in and out of our programs! If you have any feedback at all including questions, comments, concerns, and/or suggestions for our Student and Family Engagement Teams, please use the form below to submit them.

What are Code Nation students up to?

Code Nation has developed a 3-year program model to achieve our mission. In year one, the Intro Program focuses on exposing students to the foundations of web-page development through learning HTML, CSS, and the basics of JavaScript to build website and text-based games.

In year two, the Fellowship I Program focuses on giving students a deeper understanding of JavaScript and how to build more complex web applications such as music playlists and

In year three, the Fellowship II Program focuses on teaching students React, a front-end JavaScript library developed by Facebook.

Throughout the academic year, students in our programs get the opportunity to attend field trips at tech companies in their region, such as Google, connect with tech professionals, and attend various community building events.

Every year, each region hosts a coding marathon, called a Hackathon. In this day-long competition, student teams build interactive web-pages to address a specific theme or topic. They are supported by professional software engineers who serve as coaches and, at the end of the day, students present to a panel of influential technologists with winners receiving various prizes such as tablets, laptops, and more!

Alum Spotlight: Julian Jacklin
Computer Science Student at Reed College

Julian’s participation in Code Nation was a major factor in putting him on his current path. “The offerings, the consistency, the projects, and the community offered through Code Nation molded my goals. It propelled me to think about my future.” Code Nation allowed Julian to meet people with similar interests – whether it was collaborating on a project or walking back to the train together after a Fellowship, Julian felt like the community offered through Code Nation set it apart. Julian is also passionate about education, and while he hopes to land a job in technical management, his long term ambitions center around computer science education.
