About Code Nation

Code Nation is a community of teenagers, technologists, teachers, business leaders, and other champions. A movement spanning cities, cultures, and industries, our community builds bridges across social and economic divides and unites people with the power to change each others’ lives.

Code Nation equips students with the skills, experiences, and connections that together create access to careers in technology. With a volunteer teaching cohort of over 300 professional web and software developers and a network of school and company partners, we provide coding courses and work-based learning programs to students who attend under-resourced high schools. Our industry-aligned curriculum and vast network of supporters provide students with the tech skills and social capital they need to break into the tech workforce.

Since Code Nation’s founding in 2012, we’ve reached 7,485 students in 97 schools and have partnered with 145 companies across 3 regions, San Francisco Bay Area, Chicago, and New York City. We have worked with 1,445 individuals in the tech field to provide in-person and remote learning support to drive Code Nation’s mission.

The Role

We are looking for a passionate, creative leader who is inspired by our mission and ready to work to create access to tech careers for youth growing up in New York. Ideal candidates love teaching and coaching, are passionate about building strong relationships, and enjoy taking on new projects with innovation and resourcefulness. As a Program Manager, you’ll have the unique opportunity to work as a bridge builder between school partners, volunteers, and students, ensuring the successful delivery of Code Nation’s programs in the community. The Program Manager will be responsible for tracking student data, supporting program staff and volunteers, and coordinating events. The Program Manager will also be the leader of a specialized workstream, responsible for overseeing and coordinating various activities related to their designated area of focus.

The majority of Code Nation programs in New York are taking place in-person at high schools throughout the city. Program Managers are expected to regularly travel between high schools within their portfolio to support programs. When not at schools, Program Managers have the flexibility to work remotely or come into the office, located at 85 Broad St. There are a few times each quarterly when staff are expected to be in the office together for team meetings.

The salary range for this position is $64,000 to $67,000

Responsibilities
  • Manage and ensure success of the program at 4-5 high school sites.

  • Coordinate and train teams of volunteers as they teach the Code Nation curriculum; providing instructional coaching and support with the implementation of effective teaching strategies.
  • Act as a liaison between Code Nation and partner schools; keeping abreast of school schedules and keeping volunteer teams informed of changes.
  • Communicate with school partners about the success of the program and any concerns.
  • Coordinate logistics for Code Nation classes, field trips, and special events.
  • Collect and manage student and program data; managing data and outcomes for student attendance, participation, and mastery of coding.
  • Track and analyze all data using Salesforce; prepare reports and keep all stakeholders informed on progress.
  • Conduct volunteer training and support volunteers through the onboarding process.
  • Ensure student and volunteer satisfaction and retention.
  • Organize Code Nation’s summer opportunities; support planning, coordinate logistics, and manage student experience during Code Nation’s summer programming.
  • Lead a specialized workstream to support programmatic success across the region, such as volunteer community building, data management, curriculum development, or alumni engagement.
Skills and Qualifications

Success in this position will require, but not be limited to, the following proven experiences and competencies:

What you’ve accomplished (required):

  • 2+ years of classroom teaching and/or youth development experience in under-resourced schools

Skills you have developed and knowledge you have acquired:

  • Ability to manage and leverage relationships across multiple stakeholder groups
  • Strong organizational skills and an exceptional attention to detail with demonstrated success managing multiple projects at once
  • Exceptional communication skills and the ability to effectively collaborate across multiple teams
  • Proficiency with Google Suite
  • Flexibility to work extended hours on rare occasions (4-5 events per year)
