Code Nation is a community of high school students, technologists, teachers, business leaders, and other champions. A movement spanning cities, cultures, and industries, our community builds bridges across social and economic divides and unites people with the power to change each others’ lives.

Code Nation equips students with the skills, experiences, and connections that together create access to careers in technology. With a volunteer teaching cohort of over 300 professional web and software developers and a network of school and company partners, we provide coding courses and work-based learning programs to students who attend under-resourced high schools. Our industry-aligned curriculum and vast network of supporters provide students with the tech skills and social capital they need to break into the tech workforce.

During the 2019-2020 school year, Code Nation pivoted to reach 1,630 students in 72 programs across the Bay Area, Chicago, and New York City, 100% virtually. Software developers collectively volunteered more than 45,000 hours to provide in-person and remote learning in support of Code Nation’s mission in the San Francisco Bay Area, Chicago, and New York City.

The Role

Code Nation is seeking a Salesforce Administrator (Internal Title: Senior Salesforce Manager) and is eager to identify a professional who is passionate about the work we are doing to challenge structural inequities in the tech sector, and who has the skills necessary to manage the development of Salesforce and to apply analytics and innovation to help further Code Nation’s work. The Salesforce Administrator will be responsible for the day-to-day configuration, support, maintenance, and improvement of our Nonprofit Success Pack environment. This includes supporting the entire organization, developing and supporting the CRM tool, and assisting with organizational processes. They will report to the Chief Operations Officer and will partner with relevant staff across our regions and core national teams to troubleshoot with end-users to ensure the application satisfies their needs and keeps pace with changes in program operations, policies, and procedures.

In the first year, the Salesforce Administrator will develop a deep understanding of internal needs, specifically in development and programs, to offer critical thought partnership in how Salesforce can be redeveloped to meet the changing landscapes. The Salesforce Administrator will be charged with assessing needs for training of users, revamping training tools for those who need the platform for job performance, tracking processes and guides, and implementing changes to build efficiencies in Salesforce. Ultimately, a candidate who assumes this position will be successful if they are a strong strategist capable of building relationships with key stakeholders to understand needs, develop comprehensive training and systems to meet those needs, and possess robust technical skills to manage the day-to-day administration of Salesforce.

The salary range for this position is $70,000 – 85,000.

Location is remote friendly, but must be within reasonable commuting distance to one of the regional offices for monthly or quarterly meetings.

Responsibilities

The primary responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

Stakeholder engagement and executing with a user centered approach to administration

  • Build relationships with Code Nation’s internal teams, conduct a thorough needs assessment, and recommend and build out solutions to meet business needs
  • Serve as primary system administrator for the Salesforce environment with 30+ users
  • Handle all basic administrative functions including user maintenance, modification of page layouts, generation of reports and dashboards, creation of new fields and other routine tasks
  • Lead the identification and implementation of new Salesforce features and functionality to increase adoption and automation
  • Work independently with members of the user community to define and document development requirements
  • Collaborate and manage external vendors and contractors to support and supplement Code Nation’s Salesforce administrative work and the creation of software interfaces for program delivery

Project planning and execution

  • Create trainings and supports for Code Nation staff to access and leverage Salesforce for their work
  • Focus the organization’s use of data towards what best serves the mission
  • Manage the integration of third-party software / systems into Salesforce (ex. registration system, FormAssembly, etc.)
  • Map out strategic priorities and execute on projects from end-to-end
  • Develop enhancements using webforms, AI, triggers, Visual Workflows, and process builder

Training content creation and dissemination

  • Create documentation for department processes
  • Train new users and grow the Salesforce skill set across the organization
  • Support data cleanliness and integrity by designing and scripting utilities
  • Maintains system documentation (e.g. business requirements, functional specifications, customizations) and libraries in secure and organized manner
  • Maintains quality service by establishing and enforcing organization standards

Process improvement and change management

  • Gather detailed requests for improvements or changes to the system and implement these changes as appropriate
  • Automate processes using Salesforce tools such as process builder, approval processes, validation rules, and Nonprofit Success Pack features such as engagement plans and levels
  • Lead the identification and implementation of new Salesforce features and functionality to increase adoption and automation
  • Complete regular internal system audits and prepare for updates
  • Manage the Salesforce enhancements and release roadmap and related black-out periods
  • Work with our leadership team to establish suitable processes to support administrative, development, and management activities
Skills and Qualifications

Success in this position will require, but not be limited to, the following proven experiences and competencies:

What you’ve accomplished (required):

  • 5+ years of professional experience, including at least 2-3 years of administering Salesforce for development and programs experience
  • Certified Salesforce Administrator credential required
  • Experience in a role where you’ve been responsible for developing Salesforce in a development and programs context (e.g. education, youth development, workforce development, etc.)

What you’ve either done or would be excited to learn here:

  • Ability to adjust communications according to a variety of stakeholders and audiences
  • Experience managing or coaching others

Skills you have developed and knowledge you have acquired:

  • Ability to break down vision and direction of work into actionable steps, leverage manager for strategic support rather than execution accountability, and to organize and keep track of many projects, deadlines, and priorities
  • Ability to work collaboratively within and across functions (e.g. support recruitment and development, work with teams to leverage the platform) and to manage staff who don’t report into them to outcomes (articulating clear asks and influencing to execute)
  • Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines, and handle and prioritize simultaneous requests
  • Creative and analytical thinker with strong problem-solving skills
  • Must demonstrate ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing with all levels of the organization
  • Ability to critically evaluate and prioritize information gathered from multiple sources and reconcile conflicts
  • Ability to assess the impact of new requirements on Salesforce and other integrated systems
